5 Powerful Promises of God’s Goodness

|

What are the promises of God’s goodness?

I’m sure you’ve heard God is good.

Do you believe it?

Woman crossing her fingers hoping for promises of God's goodness

I desperately wanted to believe in the promises of God’s goodness. But I had a severe case of the ifs. If God’s so good, why did my niece die from cystic fibrosis? Or why did my son have a disability? If God’s so good, why did my writing dreams always seem to hit roadblocks?

I’d toss and turn at night, questioning why isn’t God coming through for me?

Everything changed when I saw a woman clutching her Bible on TV. Despite losing everything in a tornado, this determined Christian declared God was good all the time.

I desired faith like hers.

I realized I had to stop looking inward and stop focusing on the losses in my life. It’s time I turned my eyes upward at God’s goodness. So I searched the Bible to soak in the promises of God’s goodness and I’m sharing what are the five promises of God.

Every generous act and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.” James 1:17 HCSB

The Lord is our provider who gives us good things, including His son, Jesus.

Here is a list of 16 promises of God PDF, instant downloadable. It will help you remember God’s goodness.

1 His Gift of Salvation

First and foremost, God so loved the world that He gave His son, so none of us would perish but live eternally with God. When we accept Jesus into our hearts, God promises we will live forever with Him.

Well, that’s the best news ever, right?

But wait there’s more, God is so good that He sent His son into the world not to condemn us but to save the world. Once we accept God’s gift of Jesus, our sins are forgiven, and God no longer condemns us.

So, what does that mean for me?

It means I’m no longer separated from God and can now have a relationship with him. What an incredible gift!

2 The Gift of The Holy Spirit

God is a good Father, who gives wonderful gifts. The Holy Spirit is another one of His exceptional gifts.

In the Bible, the Holy Spirit is known as our comforter, helper, teacher who guides us and much more.

In fact, God’s so good, even the Holy Spirit comes with His own set of gifts including the fruit of the Spirit. (1 Cor. 12:8-10, Gal 5:22-23)

In the book of Acts the disciples received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, but this gift is still available today.

“Repent,” Peter said to them, “and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Act 2:38 HCSB

There’s still more!

3 God’s Gift of Grace

In the Old Testament, God gave grace upon a few people, like Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Rahab. But now Jesus carried God’s gift of grace and truth into the entire world for all to enjoy.

“For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—not from works, so that no one can boast.” Eph. 2:8-9 HCSB

Grace is one amazing attributes God gave us, but the beauty of grace is the power to help us overcome sin in our lives. In fact, Paul refers to grace as super abounding in Romans 5:20.

“But where sin multiplied, grace multiplied even more.”

Here’s the thing, the more you accept God’s gift of grace, the more you will ask God for help.

“Therefore, let us approach the throne of grace with boldness, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us at the proper time.” Hebrews 4:16. HCSB

Another benefit of grace is when you truly receive the gift of grace, you will extend God’s grace to those around you.

4 God’s Gift of Blessings

It gets even better God wants to bless us! In fact, God vowed to bless Abraham and his seed, which is us.

“And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to the promise.” Gal 3:29 HCSB

Since we belong to Christ, we can receive the promise that God swore to give to Abraham. So this promise below is for us!

“I will indeed bless you and I will greatly multiply you.” Hebrews 6:14  HCSB

When God delivered this promise to Abraham. He was not kidding with His words!

5 Unconditional Love

God’s unconditional love is the most precious gift He gives to us.

“But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us!” Rom. 5:8 HCSB

God’s love for us is what enables us to have hope in our future. Our past sins, mistakes and failures are all washed away because of His never-ending love for us. We can be confident that God will never leave or forsake us; even when we make poor choices. God is always by our side to help us pick up the pieces.

I’m blessed that God loves me unconditionally; I can’t imagine living without his love, so whenever I’m feeling like He isn’t showing me His goodness I meditate, write, or repeat out loud to remind myself of God’s wonderful promises. I’ve listed a few of these promises below.

“The LORD gives grace and glory; He does not withhold the good from those who live with integrity.” 2 Thess. 2:16 HCSB

“The Lord is for me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Psalm 118:6 HCSB

“Taste and see that the Lord is good. How happy is the man who takes refuge in Him!” Psalm 34:8 HCSB

“Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me all the days of my life.” Psalm 23:6 HCSB

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His faithful love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1 HCSB

“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in Him.” Nahum 1:7 NIV

“You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” Genesis 50:20 ESV.

And my key verse over my life:

“I am certain that I will see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.” Psalm 27:13 HCSB In fact the entire psalm speaks of the amazing promises of God’s goodness.

Of course the Bible has lots of other verses about the goodness of God.

Final Thoughts

I firmly planted my feet on the foundation, God is good when I truly believed the promises of God’s goodness, receiving each one in my heart. Now, when bad things happen, I’m looking for God’s goodness to appear.

It turned out my niece’s death caused many to receive Christ. God didn’t cause my niece to die, only the enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy, but God made something good even out of a tragedy.

Through my son’s disability I grew close to Jesus, and continue to experience God’s goodness on our journey.
