Prayer for Faithfulness When Your Struggling to Believe

Did you ever pray your heart out for something you desperately wanted?

But it didn’t happen.

Maybe you were believing for a body or a marriage to be healed but the person dies or the marriage crumbles. There’s been times, I’ve cried out the prayer for faithfulness, as my loyal dog has licked the salty tears streaming down my cheeks. I’d think bitterly, my faithful companion is comforting me, but God’s seems silent.  Sometimes I’d wonder, is God deaf, indifferent, or even out to get me, but then I remember Job’s faithless wife.

When Job’s health failed fortunes reversed, and children died Job’s wife advised her husband to curse God and die. On the other hand, when David’s infant son was sick, King David worshiped God. After the baby died, The king went on living. In fact, it seems the night the baby died, David visited his wife Bathsheba and they created a new life, Solomon.

David knew something Job’s wife didn’t, a major component of the prayer for faithfulness, is believing God’s faithfulness despite your adverse circumstances.

God’s not Deaf

“Listen! The LORD’s arm is not too weak to save you, nor is his ear too deaf to hear you call.” NLT Isa. 59:1

God hears our prayers, according to this verse, and others, 2Chr. 7:14, Ps. 34:17, Isa. 58:9, 65:24, Jer. 33:3, 1 Jn. 5:14. God might even be trying to get your attention.

God is faithful and hears are prayer for faithfulness.

God is not indifferent toward You

“Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even “ that were possible, I would not forget you!  ” NLT Isa. 49:15,16

If you are struggling to remember, God’s faithfulness working in your life, remember, God has your name written on the palm of His hand! Just like a typical parent carrying around photos of their kids. God is faithful, He can never forgot about you!

God Hates Me

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

I know, I know, we’ve seen this verse a million times, but we still need to remind ourselves,God rescued us and longs to spend eternally with each one of us.

My absolute favorite verse when I’m doubting God’s faithfulness is “God is light and there is no darkness in Him.”(1 Jn. 1:5) I’ve repeated this verse along with “I believe to see the goodness of God in the land of the living.”(Ps. 27:13) These two verses have gotten me through some rough times.  Any of these verses will help set a firm foundation when you begin to prayer for faithfulness.

Another comforting verse to keep in mind when your struggling to believe in God’s faithfulness is remember, Jesus didn’t condemn the man who was in unbelief. When your in doubt ask God to help you have faith.

What does it mean to be faithful in prayer?

God is so kind he calls he calls us faithful! He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it (1 Thes. 5:24) But how do we remain and keep faithful in prayer? Below are a few suggestions,

  • Believe God is faithful
  • God hears our prayers
  • He rewards those who draw near Him
  • Patience and persistence
  • Call things that be not as they are.
  • Pray even when nothing changes
  • Rehearse God’s previous faithfulness in your life

Of course, I would prefer drive-thru prayers, but God doesn’t work that way. Finally, I’m seeing ten-year-old prayers, coming true now. Our faith-filled prayers are steppingstones into the future we desire.

And I have found faith is like a muscle, keep stretching it out and when your faith muscle is cramp, keep walking it out.

What has made your faith stronger?

  • Answered prayers
  • When I step out in God meets me
  • Seeing God’s influence in every situation
  • Reading the Bible
  • Hearing other’s people’s testimonies.
  • Receiving God’s Grace and Love when I feel unworthy

I found it helpful to write my prayers to it’s an excellent way to keep tract of my prayers.

Recently, God directed me to dig out my declarations from 2017. Surprisingly, I was praying for my daughter to become a dog trainer! I forgot I even prayed for that. Now, four years later, she became a certified dog trainer.

Here’s the thing, I might have forgotten what I prayed for four years ago, but God’s so faithful, He hasn’t forgotten my prayers or yours either!

What is the highest form of prayer?

I believe the highest form of prayer someone saying the salvation prayer since accepting Jesus will change your entire life now and for eternity.

Other debate asking for a miracle and then having it happen is the highest form of payer. But there are countless types of prayers; thankfulness, help, repentance, confession, intercession, supplication, warfare prayers, agreement, concentration, praying in the Spirit and the prayer for faithfulness. It seems the list is endless, but does God prefer one type of prayer to another? I like to believe every single prayer, whether tiny or huge, God savors like the following passages state,

“Each one had a harp, and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.” Rev 5:8 NLT

“And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, rose before God from the hand of the angel.” Rev 8:4 “And the smoke of the incense ascended from the angel’s hand with the prayers of the saints before God.” Rev 8:4 NASB

David knew his prayers were a sweet-smelling fragrance to God “Let my prayer be counted as incense before you, and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice!” Ps 141:2 ESV

So whatever type of prayers we pray, let’s remember how God, the angels and the elders, cherishes the sweet aroma of our prayers and stores them in golden bowls..

What do we pray for in the prayer of the faithful?

Below is a sample prayer for faithfulness based on scriptures that show God’s faithfulness.

Thank you, Lord, for being faithful even when I’m faithless. (2 Tim 2:13)

Lord, I’m thankful that when I confess my sin you are faithful and just and forgive me for my sins. (1 John 1:9)

Thank You Lord that you are faithful, and you will guard me for the evil one.( 2 Thes. 3:13)

Lord, I’m so grateful how genuinely great Your faithfulness is since every single morning your mercy and compassion for me begins again.( Lam 3:22-23)

Thank You Lord, “you are merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.” (Exodus 34:6)

God, Thank You that, “In your faithfulness you answer me, and hear my prayers and supplications.” Ps. 143. 1

Thank You, “Lord, you are my God! I will exalt You; I will praise Your name. For You have worked wonders—plans formed long ago—in perfect faithfulness.” (Is. 25:1)

Lord, in the name of Jesus, help me believe in your faithfulness and your goodness when I’m in fear and afraid of ongoing situations in my life.

If you are struggling with doubting God’s faithfulness because of some sin, remember Charles Sprurgeon’s wise words,

The glory of God’s faithfulness is that no sin of ours has ever made Him unfaithful.

Prayer for Faithfulness in a Relationship

God is faithful to us but how do we extend faithfulness into our relationships? After all, faithfulness is a fruit of the Spirit and therefore attainable in and through your relationships.

Lord in Jesus’ name, I pray for faithfulness in all my relationships with God, family, and friends. I pray my spouse will be faithful in our marriage and I will be a faithful spouse in words and actions.

Here’s the thing, in any relationship, mothers, fathers, children, siblings, or friends, there are times you might feel disloyalty or outright betrayal. Remember, in those times God is the one who is always faithful and waiting for your with open arm to comfort you.

Conclusion

When I’m heartbroken, my dog may lick my tears off my face, but God collects my tears in a bottle and eventually He will wipe away every tear. GOD IS FAITHFUL!
