Seven Reasons Why Prayer Is Important

Prayer can be a powerful and beneficial tool for healing strength and guidance! So learning the following reasons to pray might help invigorate your prayer life.

1 ) Connects you to Your Creator

As you communicate through prayer, you are entering into a conversation with your Father. Let’s face it, God knows us and our circumstances better than us!

Prayer is a two-way conversation, so when you’re praying, pause and give your Creator a chance to speak. Sometimes you might get an impression or feeling from the Lord or He might drop something in your heart or into your thoughts.

It’s like any relationship, you need to spend regular times together and just enjoy each other presence and one way to do that is through prayer.

Prayer Quote for why prayer is important

“Prayer delights God’s ear; it melts His heart.” Thomas Watson

2) Jesus Is A Praying Man

If you’re looking for why prayer is important, look no further than Jesus. Twice Jesus states the phrase, WHEN YOU PRAY, which means we need to pray!

Jesus often rose hours before sun rise. He prayed all night when he was making the decision on who to pick for His twelve disciples. Below are a few statement that Jesus said about the importance of prayer

Jesus’ Reasons to Pray

  • You Will Be Rewarded (Matt 6:6)
  • Your Prayers can move mountains. (Matt. 17:20)
  • You get what you ask for (Mark 11:34)
  • Open Doors (Luke 11:9)
  • For Provision, Protection & Forgiveness (Luke 11-13)
  • Jesus prayed for His friends not to lose faith (Luke 22:32)

Jesus had an amazing prayer life! Even the disciples asked Jesus to show them how to pray. The disciples saw the Jesus prayers being answered as a result of His consistent pray life.

Prayer Quote Luke 18:1

“Jesus taught His disciples to always pray and not give up.” Luke 18:1.

3) Cast Your Cares

When you pray, don’t hold back! Don’t be polite. Pour out your concerns, complaints, cares, anxiety, and fears to God. God knows all your worries, so why do you have to speak or think them out.

Because when you verbalize your problems through prayer, God will:

  • Comfort you, (2 Corinthians 1:3)
  • Draw nears to you, (James 4:8)
  • Bring wisdom (James 1:5)
  • Answer your prayers (1 Pet 3:12)
  • Bring Peace (Phill.4:6)

Bringing your worries to God through your prayers will often break the power of the enemy. God can orchestrate situations to solve your problems. With God nothing is impossible!

Prayer Quote

“All I know is that when I pray, coincidences happen: and when I don’t pray they don’t happen.” Dan Hayes

4) Help You Love Others

When you pray for your family members, you can’t help but grow closer to them and love them even more. If you do end up in a disagreement with a family member, it’s difficult to stay mad at someone if you been praying for them.

The same goes for your enemies. Why does your heart soften if we pray for our enemies? Because you are looking at them with God’s eyes, not your own.

There have times I’ve prayed for people I disagree with or have been hurt by. I started praying for those sandpaper people in my life through my gritted teeth. Yet, when I continued to prayer for my enemies I became less angry since, the peace of Christ washed over me.

Praying for your enemies will help you see them through a different lens, making it easier to love and forgive them. Seeing others as children of God instead of an enemy. If someone is toxic, ask God how you can protect yourself from them, but you can pray for them at a distance and hope God changes them.

Prayer Quote

“You cannot pray for someone and hate them at the same time.” Billy Graham

5) Prayer Changes You

Another reason why prayer is important is because prayer can transform you into the person God intended you to be! God has a destiny for each one of us.

Praying can break bad habits or sin in your life. Let’s get this straight: God loves you unconditionally. When you sin and we all do, nothing can separate you from the Father since Jesus died for our sins and we are under grace.

But sometimes our sins make us feel guilty, so we avoid God, the one who can help us break sin from our lives.

One of the best prayers you can pray is God. Help me. Or God, help me stop_______ (fill in the blank) God honors simple heartfelt prayers.

6) Why Prayer is Important—Establishes Faith and Trust

Every time one of my petitions is fulfilled, I’m in amazement. Answered prayers reinforce that God is trustworthy and faithful. But on the flip side, when my prayers don’t get answered, or the outcome isn’t what I expected, I need to trust that God knows best. I confess sometimes when prayers didn’t go my way, I’d cry and shout at God. But over these last thirteen years, I’ve learned God is faithful, even when I’m not.

Prayer is placing your complete trust in God rather than relying on yourself.

Right now, prayers that I’ve paid ten years ago are becoming a reality. Praying to God is a good way to keep yielding to God.

Give God the right to direct your life,

and as you trust Him along the way,

you’ll find He pulled it off perfectly!

Psalm 37.5 TPT

7) The Power of Prayer

Have you wondered why prayer is so powerful? One reason is, our words carry power on this earth. Remember when God formed the heavens in the earth he kept declaring, “Let there be.”

God created man in his own image and then gave us dominion over the earth. “Genesis 1:26-28.”

Jesus also reminded His disciples of their authority on earth. Luke 10:19:

“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you.”

Pray to use your authority!

Prayer is Powerful

  • Prayer drives out demons. (Mk, 9:29)
  • Daniel’s prayer brings an angel (Dan. 10:12)
  • A prayer of faith will save the sick (James 5:15)
  • Prayer for a righteous person have great power James (5:16)
  • Land can be healed through prayer (2 Chron. 7:14)
  • God hears our prayers (2 Kings 20:5)

Amazingly, prayer does all this and more, but why does God want us to pray? Can’t God just do what we want with us? He can, but God wants to partner with us and through our prayers, establishing His will on earth. God is not pushy, He will never violate our free will.

He wants an open door into our lives through prayer. And God wants to work His purposes and plans through us.
