Hi, I’m Susan.

When I began writing 63 Hours in Hell, little did I know the incredible journey God had in store for me. What started as a spark of inspiration soon blossomed into a deep reimagining of some of the Bible’s most significant stories.

This book is more than a retelling. It’s a unique exploration into Christian fantasy, where you’ll walk with familiar biblical heroes like Noah, Moses, Elijah, and Dismas—the thief who died beside Jesus. This book shows them not just as figures from Scripture, but as real, tangible humans with raw emotions and challenges.

You’ll also encounter new characters. Meet Hannah, a jilted bride seeking purpose; her annoying brother; and Mahway, a Nephilim who finds himself in the shadows after the Flood. Mahway’s role might remind you of C. S. Lewis’ Screwtape, but with a twist unique to our tale.

This novel offer a glimpse into the enduring love and mercy of God, sometimes in unexpected ways. You’ll also rediscover Jesus in the Old Testament, his presence hinted at in ancient narratives, all presented in a way that’s authentic and relatable.

I hope 63 Hours in Hell will make you feel the reality of God’s grace in new, meaningful ways. This book invites you to experience the power of Jesus’ death and resurrection as a personal journey of discovery and transformation.

Rediscovering Ancient Stories Through Christian Fantasy

The prologue starts outside the Garden of Eden. Here, Eve grappling with loss and is angry at Adam and blames God for her downfall.

Then there’s Dismas, the man crucified next to Jesus. His story is one of torment and redemption, and through his darkest moments, you might see the quiet, steadfast love God has for all of us, even when we feel lost.

Together, these narratives form a larger story about spiritual battles, human weaknesses, and God’s relentless plan for redemption. They’re personal, emotional, and crafted to resonate with anyone who’s ever struggled or sought forgiveness.

My Personal Connection

Writing this wasn’t just about reinterpreting biblical tales—it was a personal spiritual odyssey that challenged and deepened my faith. The fears and doubts of characters like Hannah and Dismas mirror my past struggles.

I once fled God. But during a difficult period in my life, I found salvation and hope at a funeral where I answered an altar call. A transformative moment, it gave me fresh insight into scripture and life itself.

My Journey to Faith and Writing

When I became a Christian in my 40s, the Bible became a whole new world for me—full of questions, mysteries, and awe. Stories like the Nephilim, Jesus descending into hell, and Mary not being able to touch Jesus after His resurrection completely intrigued me. These accounts didn’t just challenge my understanding; they ignited my imagination in ways I never expected.

But the real turning point in my faith—and eventually my writing—came from a seemingly ordinary yet surreal moment. It all started with a flat tire, caused by none other than a broken key. At that time, I was already brainstorming a book idea about “mending the key to hell.” What are the odds, right?

As I stood there, more than a little frustrated, a kind stranger working at the tire shop spoke to me in a way that felt like a gentle nudge from above. He reminded me of God’s unwavering love, and suddenly, the moment clicked. It wasn’t just a coincidence. It was confirmation.

That flat tire and that conversation became a pivotal moment for me—a sign to trust God and keep writing. It marked the beginning of my writing journey and the moment I truly stepped out in faith.
