The Haunting Legends of Genesis 6: Who Were the Nephilim?
When I first became a Christian, my brother gave me a special gift—despite the fact that I had “ding-dong-ditched” him for years whenever he talked about Jesus. It changed my life. The author, Finnis Dake, had a supernatural experience in 1920 the entire bible download into his brain he knew every word sentence and comma. People called him “Walking Bible”
This remarkable book discusses Nephilim, the giants of Scripture, which sparked my imagination to write my own fiction book. Imagine an ancient Earth filled with towering giants, great warriors, their mouths lined with double rows of teeth. Like comic book anti-heroes or Greek gods, they held superpowers. This isn’t fiction; it’s a strange reality hinted at in the Bible
Nephilim and Genesis 6:4
In Genesis 6:4, we read that giants roamed the Earth before and after the flood, born from the unholy union of angels and the daughters of men, the human women. Their offspring, mighty men of renown, known as the Nephilim Who were the angelic beings that fathered the Nephilim? To uncover their story, we need to look at two groups of rebellious angels.
First Angel Rebellion
The first group consisted of one-third of the angels who joined forces with Lucifer. Their goal was to overthrow God so that Lucifer could be worshiped instead of their Creator. Because of their disobedience, God kicked them out of heaven and cast them down to Earth. These once-good angels became wicked and are now referred to as fallen angels.
Second Angel Rebellion
The second group is the Watcher angels. Their divine mission was to carry out justice for humanity. However, 200 of these Watcher angels strayed from their purpose. They abandoned heaven and chose to indulge in the mortal experience, mating with human females.
The Nephilim And Forbidden Knowledge
These Watcher angels brought forbidden knowledge into our world, teaching mankind how to create weapons, practice sorcery, and reject God at every turn. The Book of Jubilees, an apocryphal text, describes the fallout of the Watchers’ influence: “Lawlessness increased on the earth, and everything of the earthly realm became corrupt—humans, cattle, wild animals, birds.” According to the Book of Enoch, also apocryphal, some giants reached an astonishing height of 450 feet, making a T-Rex look like a child’s toy! These colossal beings devoured everything in their path. When they had consumed all available resources, they resorted to cannibalism. Gross, right? It sounds like something out of a zombie show!
The Corruption of Earth
The Earth became defiled. But why? If we lift the curtain, we see Lucifer behind chaos and corruption. After his first attempt to overthrow God failed, he plotted Adam and Eve’s downfall. When Adam sinned, God assured a future victory over Satan in Genesis 3:15: “I will place hostility between you and the woman, between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.” The “He” in this prophecy refers to Jesus.
Upon hearing that the woman’s offspring would not only wound Lucifer but also defeat him, Lucifer devised a sinister plan to corrupt the human bloodline, ensuring there would be no pure woman for the Savior to enter the world through. In Genesis 6:9, Noah is described as a just man, “perfect in his generations.” The word “perfect” here is translated from the Hebrew term tamiym, which often refers to bodily perfection and pure unblemish stock in animal sacrifices. This suggests that Noah and his family were the last uncorrupted bloodline from Adam. Lucifer diabolical plan nearly succeeded, being just eight souls away from complete annihilation.
God’s Response and the Aftermath
God saw the wickedness running rampant throughout the Earth, and it grieved Him deeply—to the point that He was sorry He made man (Genesis 6:6). In response, God took a radical step: He was forced to wipe out the corruption to give humanity a fresh start. a divine reset only sparing Noah his family and the animals.
After the flood, God locked the disobedient Watcher Angels in Tartarus—a place in hell. There, they await judgment and can never breed with human women again. The Nephilim also faced a grim fate; they are not allowed access to heaven since they are illegal spirits, not created by God Some Bible scholar believes this scripture hints at their current condition Isaiah 26:14: “They are dead; they will not live; they are shades/ghosts; they will not arise.”
According to the Book of Enoch, the “Evil Spirits” of the dead Nephilim now oppress, destroy, and create chaos against humanity. These demonic spirits feed on humans like parasites, manipulating and influencing them from within.
I know this type of thinking can be scary, but we must remember the authority given to us by our Lord. In Luke 10:19, Jesus reassures us that we don’t have to fear the Nephilim or anything “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” We don’t have to live in fear. Learn how to cancel the enemy plans.
The Nephilim After the Flood
After God cleansed the earth with the flood, giving humanity a fresh start, the Nephilim somehow made another appearance. There are many theories to explain how this could have happened. Let’s review some of them. Please note that all the following theories are conjecture, as the Bible is silent on how the Nephilim resurfaced after the flood.
The Stowaway Theory
Theory: It’s pretty wild, but some believe the Nephilim giants had sneaked into Noah’s ark. Some speculate that Noah’s family may have carried on some of the Nephilim bloodline, or that some giants evaded the flood’s destruction.
Debunked: The Bible is clear about who survived the flood.
“Everything on dry land with the breath of life in its nostrils died.” (Genesis 7:22)
“The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth.” (Genesis 10:18)
This seems to debunk the stowaway theory. In my fiction book 63 Hours in Hell, I explore a unique way of reconciling these scriptures while showing a different way that the second invasion of the Nephilim could have happened.
Nephilim’s Spirits Come Back
Theory: Another idea is that the Nephilim’s physical forms didn’t survive the flood, but their spirits did, continuing to cause chaos among humans. This theory suggests that these evil spirits, influenced by the Nephilim, could attach themselves to humans, further leading them into sin.
Debunked: Here’s where this theory gets tricky—how could an evil spirit, which doesn’t have a physical form, mate with a human to produce offspring? This part of the theory seems far-fetched, especially considering the Bible’s obvious distinctions between spirits and humans.
Support that the Nephilim are Spirits
he Book of Enoch and passages like Isaiah 26:14 describe the dead Nephilim as “shades” or “ghosts” that cannot rise, suggesting that these spirits might be the demonic forces we battle against today.
Isaiah 26:14 (Literal Standard Version): “Do You do wonders to the dead? Does Rephaim rise? Do they thank You? Selah.”
This verse refers to the Rephaim as those who do not rise, aligning with the idea that the spirits of the Nephilim, described as “shades” or “ghosts,” remain bound and unable to return to life.
Psalm 88:10 (CSB): “Do You work wonders for the dead? Do departed spirits rise up to praise You? Selah.”
This rhetorical question suggests that these spirits, referring to the “dead” or “shades,” do not rise to honor God. Instead, their rise might be for something else—perhaps for evil purposes, oppression, or destruction. The Selah at the end emphasizes a pause for reflection, reminding us that these spirits are not in the presence of God, but are restless and lost.
Both Isaiah 26:14 and Psalm 88:10 give us the imagery of spirits, or “Rephaim,” rising—not for divine purposes but for chaos, suggesting that the Nephilim spirits, if they didn’t physically return, might continue to influence humanity through demonic forces. This is consistent with the idea that, after the flood, the Nephilim’s influence did not cease, but their spirits remained, oppressing and corrupting humanity.
Nephilim DNA in Humanity
Theory: Fringe theories suggest that certain human families held onto the DNA of the Nephilim, indicating that some of their traits could still manifest today.
This idea often appears in conspiracy theories, where people claim elite families have Nephilim ancestry and may possess hidden or esoteric knowledge. These theories point to interpretations of “giant bloodlines,” suggesting that certain families or individuals may still carry the supernatural connection to these ancient beings.
Debunked: Seems like a plot for a fiction book, and we don’t see many elite walking around with 6 fingers and toes, as tall as cedar trees.
Nephilim Resurgence Through Ham’s Line
Theory: After the flood, when Noah cursed Ham’s son, Canaan, some speculate that this curse allowed the Nephilim’s influence to resurface through Ham’s bloodline. The land of Canaan, associated with Ham’s descendants, became home to giants, potentially facilitating the return of the Nephilim.
Support: Some think one prominent figure, Nimrod, from Ham’s line to be one of these mighty men of renown. The Bible calls him a “hunter” and a “builder of cities.” (Genesis 10:9-10)Some extra-biblical sources suggest he built the Tower of Babel, further tying him to a legacy of rebellion. One of the key figures in Ham’s line is Nimrod, described in the Bible as a mighty “hunter” and a “builder of cities.”
Some believe Nimrod was one of the “mighty men of renown” who could have had Nephilim blood in him, continuing the legacy of giants that preceded the flood. Extra-biblical sources, including Jewish tradition and other ancient texts, also describe Nimrod as a powerful figure who defied God, even attempting to build the Tower of Babel as a rebellion against divine authority. And the name meaning of Nimrod is “we will rebel”!
The Amorites, Emim, Zamzummim, and Rephaim, all of whom lived in the land of Canaan, also connect Nimrod with the giants. These groups were described as giants, often comparable to the Nephilim in terms of their size and strength. The Bible’s description of the Amorites, for example, as “as tall as cedar trees” (Deuteronomy 2:10) echoes the physical characteristics of the giants before the flood.
The land of Canaan, where Ham’s descendants settled, was thus a breeding ground for giants and might have been a place where Nephilim-like beings, whether through genetic influence or demonic activity, resurfaced after the flood. This connection suggests that the curse on Canaan didn’t just affect the individual descendants but may have allowed the Nephilim’s influence to re-emerge through Ham’s bloodline, continuing the cycle of corruption and rebellion against God.

Wiping Out the Nephilim
It may be hard to reconcile how a loving God would command the Hebrews to remove the inhabitants of Canaan completely, but the situation was far more complex than just physical conquest.
What if some of these nations were directly influenced by the Nephilim or were even descendants of these beings?
These nations had become deeply corrupted, and the command to remove them wasn’t just a military directive but a spiritual act to purify the land from such corruption. In this context, the command was about purging the land of the Nephilim’s tainted bloodline and the moral decay that came with it.
In Deuteronomy 7:1-2, God gives this command to the Israelites:
“When the Lord your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you—and when the Lord your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally.”
A similar command is given in Deuteronomy 20:16-17:
“However, in the cities of the nations the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes. Completely destroy them…as the Lord your God has commanded you.”
This command was not about a lack of mercy, but about preparing the way for the bloodline through which our Savior, Jesus, would come. The Israelites were being instructed to remove the influence of these nations, whose actions had been shaped by the Nephilim’s corruption. Their obedience to this command was vital in preventing the spread of that corruption and wickedness throughout the land, ensuring that the path for the coming of Jesus would remain clear.
Nephilim and the Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah
Many people believe that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed due to immoral practices, but could something deeper have been at play? What if the Nephilim’s influence, which began before the flood, played a role in the downfall of these cities? What if the same corruption that had led to the Nephilim before the flood continued in Sodom, influencing the city’s actions and contributing to its destruction?
Let’s examine Jude 1:7, which says:
“Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.”
The phrase “going after strange flesh” is significant. Many believe it refers to the same corruption we saw in Genesis 6, where fallen angels mated with human women. Could the Nephilim’s influence have resurfaced in Sodom, contributing to its moral decay? This phrase suggests that angelic beings could have been involved in corrupting humanity once again, echoing the pre-flood events.
However, Sodom’s wickedness wasn’t limited to sexual sin. Ezekiel 16:49 tells us:
“Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed, and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.”
Pride, greed, and a lack of compassion for others were among the defining characteristics of the city. The Book of Jasher paints a vivid picture of the Sodomites’ cruelty, describing how they actively tormented strangers. This shows the depth of the moral corruption in the city, far beyond just one issue.
Sodom and Gomorrah were known for their wickedness and depravity, and it is suggested that these cities were under the influence of Nephilim-like beings.
Some speculate that when the men of Sodom surrounded Lot’s house, it was not just out of lust, but a deeper desire to dominate and control. In fact, some theories suggest that the Sodomites believed Lot was hiding spies, and in ancient cultures, violence—such as rape—was sometimes used as a way to assert dominance over perceived enemies or strangers. It’s important to note that Sodom had been conquered before, and its people had been enslaved, which may have shaped their aggressive behavior.
The Bible states that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by fire and brimstone, and this could have came from an asteroid impact played a role. Using a Sumerian Planisphere tablet, researchers propose that a mile-long asteroid exploded in the sky, sending a plume of smoke toward Sodom and Gomorrah, contributing to their fiery destruction. This theory aligns with Genesis 19:28, which describes the smoke of the land going up “like the smoke of a furnace.”
Despite this theory, Jude 1:7 and Ezekiel 16:49 remind us that the true reason for the destruction of Sodom was a deep moral and spiritual decay, influenced by the Nephilim or other fallen beings. Their wickedness was not just physical but spiritual, rooted in corruption that had been ongoing for generations.
Nephilim and Evidence of Giants:
Beyond the destruction of Sodom, we see evidence of Nephilim-like beings in ancient archaeological sites. Take Baalbek in Lebanon, home to some of the largest man-made stones ever discovered. These colossal stones, measuring around 64 feet long, 19.6 feet wide, and 18 feet thick, each weighing around 1,600 tons, have puzzled modern engineers and archaeologists.
Arabic tradition claims that Cain, the son of Adam, built these stones, while others believe that after the flood, Nimrod—a descendant of Ham—reconstructed the city of Baalbek with the help of giants, possibly Nephilim descendants. This theory connects with the idea that the Nephilim may have played a role in constructing these massive structures.
Other ancient structures, like the Galgal Refa’im (also known as “Wheel of Ghosts” or “Circle of Giants”), further point to a connection with giants. This mysterious site in the Golan Heights consists of concentric stone circles, similar to Stonehenge. Some believe this site is linked to the biblical race of giants, perhaps as a burial or worship site. Its age and alignment with celestial events add to its enigmatic nature, further fueling speculation that these giants, or beings with Nephilim-like traits, left their mark on ancient civilizations.
While no physical evidence of Nephilim skeletons has been conclusively verified, the existence of these monumental structures, alongside ancient traditions and texts, suggests that giants once walked the earth.
Final Thoughts:
While we may never uncover definitive physical evidence of the Nephilim, the monumental structures they may have built, along with ancient texts, continue to fuel speculation about their existence. As we study the biblical references to giants, we see that their influence could have reached beyond the flood. But what we know for sure is that the Nephilim walked the earth, as the Bible tells us in Genesis 6:4—their legacy is woven into the ancient battles between good and evil.
And perhaps, most importantly, we must remember that the spirits of the Nephilim—those same corrupting forces—continue to influence humanity today. As the Bible warns us, these evil spirits oppress and corrupt humanity. But we also know that through God’s power, we have the authority to resist them, and we must remain vigilant in guarding our hearts and minds from their deceptive influence.
